About us
Founded by Napoleon I in 1810, the Scuola Normale Superiore (SNS) of Pisa is a prestigious public institute for elite higher education with unique features. SNS is based on the excellence and the quality of its students. They are selected on the basis of merit and they live in a collegiate system, with a continuing relation with the professors.
The teaching system
The teaching and researching model is unique in the Italian university system. The students are involved in researching activities since their first steps inside the Scuola. Thought on the basis of a collegiate system, they live a particular relation with the professors, made of a direct line and a constant connection with them.
The PhD experience
The Scuola Normale has been the first institution in Italy to create a doctoral programme (PhD), in 1927. Every year the SNS announces competitions for PhD grants: coherently to the philosophy of the SNS, the grantee works in close contact with the best Italian and foreign professors within the research centers of the Scuola, realizing that common vision which feeds the collegiate idea of SNS.
SNS: Formazione e Ricerca, progresso e tradizione
